L’inverno era ormai alle porte. Gli alberi privi di foglie non offrivano più alcun riparo ed i piccoli animali si erano già preparati ad affrontare il freddo. 

Una giovane volpe vagava solitaria in cerca di un po’ di cibo con il quale placare quella fame terribile che l’aveva colpita. Erano molti giorni che non mangiava. Le sue abituali prede si erano rifugiate in caldi ripari nutrendosi con le scorte alimentari raccolte durante l’estate ed era impossibile stanarli. Così, il povero animale camminava sconsolato pensando che la fame era veramente una brutta nemica. 

All’improvviso, un profumo delizioso le stuzzicò le narici. La volpe si avvicinò al punto da cui si propagava l’inaspettata fragranza e finalmente vide un enorme pezzo d’arrosto premurosamente sistemato nell’incavo di una quercia. Sicuramente era il pranzo dimenticato da qualche pastore.

L’animale si intrufolò nella cavità della pianta, riuscendo ad entrarvi con molta fatica. Quando si trovò all’interno del buco poté placare la propria irresistibile fame, divorando la carne in un boccone. Trascorsi alcuni minuti, la volpe con la pancia spaventosamente piena, decise di uscire dall’incavo per tornare all’aperto. 

Ma appena tentò di oltrepassare il buco dal quale era entrata scoprì di non essere più in grado di superarlo! Aveva mangiato troppo ed era diventata molto più grossa rispetto a prima. Spaventatissima si sforzò cosi tanto per uscire che alla fine rimase irreparabilmente incastrata nella fenditura!

Lo sfortunato animale iniziò a gridare finché una seconda volpe passando la vide e saputo quanto accaduto disse: “E’ inutile strillare. Avresti dovuto avere pazienza ed aspettare tranquilla all’interno della pianta fino a quando la tua pancia non diminuiva. Invece l’impulsività ti ha ridotto in questa condizione e dovrai comunque aspettare finché non smaltirai ciò che hai mangiato”.

 Così, la povera volpe rimase incastrata nella cavità per più di un giorno, rimpiangendo il calduccio che avrebbe trovato se avesse aspettato paziente all’interno della quercia.

La pazienza e il tempo sono degli ottimi alleati per affrontare qualsiasi difficoltà 

Winter was now approaching. The leafless trees no longer offered shelter, and the small animals had already prepared to face the cold. 

A young fox wandered alone in search of some food to appease the terrible hunger that had struck her. It had been many days since she had eaten. Her usual prey had taken refuge in warm shelters, feeding on the food stores collected during the summer, and it was impossible to flush them out. So, the poor animal walked disconsolately, thinking hunger was an ugly enemy. 

Suddenly, a delicious scent tickled her nostrils. The fox approached the point from which the unexpected fragrance emanated and finally saw a huge piece of roast carefully placed in the hollow of an oak tree. Surely, it was the lunch forgotten by some shepherd.

The animal sneaked into the tree's cavity, managing to enter with great difficulty. When she found herself inside the hole, she could satisfy her irresistible hunger, devouring the meat in one gulp. After a few minutes, with her belly frighteningly full, the fox left the hollow and returned outside. 

But as soon as she tried to pass through the hole she had entered, she discovered she could no longer fit through it! She had overeaten and had become much bigger than before. Terrified, she struggled so hard to get out that, in the end, she remained irreparably stuck in the crevice!

The unfortunate animal began to cry out until a second fox passing by saw her and, upon learning what had happened, said, "It's useless to scream. You should have been patient and waited quietly inside the tree until your belly decreased. Instead, impulsiveness has brought you to this condition, and you'll still have to wait until you digest what you ate." 

Thus, the poor fox remained trapped in the cavity for more than a day, regretting the warmth she would have found if she had patiently waited inside the oak.

Patience and time are excellent allies to face any difficulty.
